_gaia Studio 10th Anniversary Countdown: Moving to Jersey City

Move_to_jc6

Personally, I don't have great feelings about moving. It's a lot of work, an explosion of memories, good and bad, and  I hate myself for having so much stuff. Then again, the action of packing your things and schlepping stuff into a transport, tetris-ing everything so it fits just right in there, can be a lot of fun.

_gaia did just that when the artist collective moved to Jersey City in 2008, and from the photos it looks like they had fun doing it! Moving is always more fun with a group anyway. I hope they didn't forget a blanket and pillow.

The following year, _gaia participated in the annual Jersey City Artists' Studio Tour, officially opening their doors to the arts community. They've grown significantly since then, as well as accumulated artwork on their walls and a sofa. Many wine & cheese art openings later, it's hard to believe the studio looked as empty as it once did. What ever happened to that stove, anyway?

Visit _gaia and dozens of other studios this weekend during the 22nd Annual Jersey City Artists' Studio Tour, and you'll see what I mean.
