Jersey City Art School (JCAS) is a for-profit collective in downtown Jersey City, designed with the community's residents in mind and using its wealth of artistic resources. Its focus is on growth of the individual artist—those involved can learn new skills, build a portfolio, or just hone their existing technique in an environment that fosters communication, even friendship, with others who have the same interests and talent. As the school expands, it will continue to look to local artists to participate both as students and instructors, further developing the lively arts scene in Jersey City and beyond.

Jason Bard Yarmosky's 'Elder Kinder' at Lyons Wier Gallery, Thursday May 3

Yarmosky_ballet_web

Brooklyn-based artist, Jason Bard Yarmosky, is having his first solo show with Lyons Wier Gallery in New York City on Thursday, May 3. Elder Kinder builds on Yarmosky's earlier works, exploring the notion that age doesn't prevent or limit life, but defines and provides it. Yarmosky's work is so well-constructed and mastered, the figures in the paintings, inspired by the artist's own 84-year old grandparents, seem to come to life before your eyes. Outfitted in clothing from younger years, the figures exude a light-hearted sensibility, despite the shroud of darkness.

Preview the show here on Instigatorzine.com, and come to the opening Thursday evening!
